FAQ - Installation and activation
Q: Where can I download the software?
A: Click on the download link at http://www.huagati.com/dbmltools/
Q: How do I install the software?
A: Unzip the contents of the download into a temporary directory and run setup.exe.
Q: How do I get a trial license?
A: Enter your name and email address at http://www.huagati.com/dbmltools/license/getlicense.aspx and your trial license key will be sent to you in an email.
Q: Why do I need to enter my email address to get a trial license? Will you send me any spam or newsletters?
A: The email address is only needed to make it more difficult to abuse the trial licenses. You will not be subscribed to any 'newsletters', mailing lists etc and it will not be shared with any third parties. We will only use your email address to send you your trial license key.
Q: The registration does not seem to be working for me. I enter my info and get the message to restart Visual Studio, but after I restart it I still just have the Register menu item available under the DBML/EDMX Tools menu and cannot access of the tool functionality.
A: The "register/activate" menu is always active on the menu but the menu items for the Linq-to-SQL and EF designers are only active when the designer is open. Open a dbml file or edmx file the other menu items will appear in the "DBML/EDMX Tools" dropdown menu.
Q: I registered two or three times, but this menu item never goes away: "Register/Activate License for Huagati DBML Tools".
A: Yes, even after activating the license that menu item will stay on the menu. This can understandingly be confusing so this behavior may change in a future version.
Q: Does your license allow use on both a desktop and a laptop under the same license (as long as they are not used at the same time)?
A: Yes, you can use one license on several machines provided that it is used by the same person. Alternatively, several users can share one license on a single machine.
Q: I purchased a license two hours ago but haven't received my license key yet.
A: Unfortunately we have to manually review all PayPal orders for validity. As a result, it may take up to one business day before you receive your license key. If you still haven't received your license key after one day, please send an email to licensing@huagati.com
Q: I tried to purchase a license but my credit card is not accepted. What is wrong?
A: We use a third party payment processor, PayPal. Please contact your credit card issuer or PayPal support ( https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/helpweb?cmd=_help ).
Q: I don't want to use my credit card. Can I wire-transfer my payment?
A: Yes, please send an email to licensing@huagati.com if you want to pay via wire-transfer.

Q: I have 300 tables in my database. Can I get a trial license that I can use with more than 150 tables?
A: Yes, send an email to licensing@huagati.com and ask us to tweak up your trial license to the number of tables you need. Include your trial license key.
Q: My trial license has expired but I haven't finished evaluating the software. Can you extend my trial license?
A: Yes, send an email to licensing@huagati.com and ask us to extend your trial license period. Include your trial license key.
Q: I am a student. Do you have any discounts for students?
A: Yes, please email some form of proof that you are a full-time student (e.g. scanned copy of student id, enrollment letter or similar) and we'll send you a free license.
Q: Can I share my license with a friend or colleague?
A: Yes, provided you and your friend/colleague activate and use it on the same computer.
Q: How do I upgrade from a previous version?
A: Download and run the installer for the latest version. The installer will overwrite the previous version and your license file from the previous version will work fine after updating.
Q: I purchased my license a few months ago. Do you charge anything for upgrades or can I upgrade to the latest version for free?
A: If you have a license you can always upgrade to the latest version free of charge. Your license stays valid after you upgrade and we don't charge anything for upgrades. Existing features will continue working after upgrading, but some new features may require a new license (e.g. the VS2010/EFv4 features requires a license issued during (or after) 2010).
Q: How can I uninstall the software?
A: un the uninstaller from Control Panel/Programs and Features (Vista/Win7) or Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs (XP/Win2003).

Q: Can I turn off the 'new version' update check and notification popup?
A: Yes. The add-in creates a file called HuagatiDBMLExtensions.dll.versionCheck in the Visual Studio 2008 add-in directory. You can disable or postpone update checks by editing that file and setting VersionInfo/@Reported to a future date. The add-in will not check for new version until [at the earliest] 48 hours after the date/time noted in the .versionCheck file.

A: Yes - you can use the activation dialog on a system that is not online. After two failed attempts it will pop up a dialog containing a key that you can use to download a license file (using a connected machine). That license file will work on the machine that generated the key.
